Turkey is stepping up its efforts to combat illegal gambling and cybercrime with a major operation launched by the Ministry of Interior. The nation’s most recent crackdown exposed a vast networkof illicit activities that span financial fraud, unauthorized system access, andillegal betting. Authorities Conducted a Large-Scale Operation

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the crackdown via social media, highlighting the collaboration between the government’s Cyber Crimes Combat Department and the Gendarmerie General Command. Authorities conducted operations in16 provinceslike Istanbul, Izmir, Gaziantep, Adana, Mersin, and others, making this crackdown one of the most significant in recent years.

Despite strict anti-gambling laws, illegal gamblingcontinues to thrivein Turkey, driven by technological advancements and social media influence. The government has previously warned againstpromoting such activities, citing risks to public welfare and economic stability.

The recent raids saw law enforcement detain27 suspects. Many of them were popular social media influencerswho now stand accused of promoting illegal gambling platforms. Authorities claim that these people utilized their massive online followings to encourage illegal betting among their audiences.

Gambling Influencers Face Rising Scrutiny

This crackdown is another escalationof Turkey’s efforts to curb influencer gambling advertisements. In November, authorities detained 17 individuals suspected of promoting illegal gambling. These included recognizable social media influencers, including Sefa Caner Saricam, Ibrahim Yilmaz,and Muzaffer Zorbey Erkoclar. Another four remain outside Turkey, complicating extradition efforts.
